She is the owner and operator of Naturally Chic Gifts - a bridal boutique offering custom, handmade bridesmaid and bridal champagne glasses, jewelry dishes, and tumblers.
We got together with Tamara to talk about what inspires her, what keeps her going, and what she loves about her collection.
What Inspired You To Create Your Small Business?
I've always aspired to lead in some capacity, and usually it has always involved some sort of creative outlet. My very first "business" was created when I was just eight - I created handmade ornaments to sell at the neighboring thrift store to my dancing school. I remember being so proud of the first $20 I ever made profiting from my creations, and I have been experimenting with business ideas ever since. After planning for my wedding, I have realized just how much I love being involved in the wedding industry, and its such a special feeling to know that we, Naturally Chic Gifts, are a part of so many important events! I'm fortunate that this business is the one that has stuck!
What's Your Favorite Piece in Your Collection?
My favorite item in our shop is the personalized champagne glasses. I created these when I was planning my bridesmaid proposal gifts for my wedding this past April. It means so much that something I made with my friends in mind also happens to be one of our most sought after items! It goes to show you that creating with love is always best.
What Do You Like To Do When You're Not Working?
When not working, you can find me spending time with my husband and our golden, Achilles! I also love spending time with friends especially trying out new restaurants around Raleigh.
What Advice Would You Give to Other Young Entrepreneurs?
Simply put, keep experimenting, and keep dreaming about what you want. It has taken me numerous iterations of a business to get where I am now, and I still have so much more room for growth. If one business venture isn't perfect or doesn't work as planned, keep trying; eventually you will find the right path to follow!
If You Weren't In This Business What Would You Be Doing?
By day, I am a data architect lead at an electrical engineering and manufacturing company. I manage a small team of people that work on the population and quality of data in our database used for eCommerce and sales. It is vastly different from my business, but completely challenges me in a different way each day.
