The newest trend in home decor is textile weaving and tapestries. While we don't have a loom (although wouldn't that be a fun DIY) we decided to do some basic yarn art for our walls.
This easy DIY can be a great addition to a gallery wall, make a great gift, or become a statement piece when made in large format.
We used materials from our favorite craft store - Michaels. to make this fun home decor piece.
- Yarn - about a skein or two (any color you like)
- A book or some other rectangular item
- A stick, ring, or dowel
- Thin wire (optional)
Wrap yarn around your rectangular shaped object evenly until yarn only around the object.
Cut the edges of one end - you'll now have a bunch of strands .
Take 4-6 strands depending on thickness and gather.
Create a loop against your dowel, hoop, or stick, and stick yarn through the hoop, pulling to create a knot.
Continue this process until desired effect.
From there you can leave the yarn hanging or cut the edges straight across to create a shape or pattern.
Hang by using thin wire or tying string to the edges and hang.
These can be made in any size from small to large - can incorporate beads, paint, or be cut for a more even look. We'd love to see how you create your yarn art. Post your photos below or tag them with #coppercreativediy
