Building a Bouquet on a Budget

Building a Bouquet on a Budget - Bouquet DIY

Bouquets are one of my favorite things - from bridal bouquets to a cluster of flowers in a vase to brighten a room - I absolutely adore flowers. And it was during one of our first Copper Creative events together I realized how much of a love I have for arranging flowers.

In this post I will show you how to put together a bouquet no matter the occasion, whether you're trying to save some money on florals at your wedding or putting together a styled shoot or even trying to build a wonderful centerpiece for a function.

Gather Your Flowers

When making a bouquet I never want to go over $50 so I know that my go-to place to purchase flowers is Trader Joe's will have everything I need in or under my budget. Their assortment of flowers changes by the season and they even have batches of eucalyptus for $2.69 to use as filler, a trend that is popping up everywhere! You can also snag flowers at a local Farmer's Market for $10-$20 a bouquet or Whole Foods (although this option is a little pricey) if you're not near a Trader Joe's.

When purchasing your flowers choose 2-3 pre-made bouquets, 1-2 filler greenery, and 1-3 packs of a single type of flower. Try to stay within a certain color scheme to keep it cohesive.

PRO TIP: Avoid Hydrangeas - in our experience they die/brown quickly.

For this bouquet we purchased -

2 packages of Eucalyptus
2 pre-made bouquets
1 set of white roses
1 set of pink roses
1 set of pink filler flowers

We spent $34 on all these flowers! What a steal!

Separate & Trim

Unwrap all your bouquets and separate them into piles of similar flowers and color. If you're using a vase trim the flowers so they fit nicely in the vase - although make sure to give them varying heights to give your bouquet depth.

Start Building Your Bouquet

Start with your focal point blooms - these should be the brightest, biggest, and most vibrant flowers. Gather all your flowers piece by piece separating color equally within the bouquet. Once all your flowers have been incorporated rubber band the ends together.

Add Texture

Start adding greenery around and within your bouquet, trying to create texture within the bouquet. You want to create movement and depth with your bouquet. Once you feel as if the bouquet is finished wrap another set of rubber bands around the stems.

Finish Your Bouquet

If you're all done set in a vase or if you're making a bouquet wrap with ribbon and pin. And for $34 you have an amazing bouquet for your table or a wedding.
